Who we are BOSF?

Birmingham Open Spaces Forum is a new network organisation that aims to bring together all the people in Birmingham with an interest in open spaces.

What is an Open Space?

For our purposes an Open Space is any space that a community regards as a green area, accessible to the local community. This includes: parks, allotments, nature reserves, country parks, cemeteries, wildlife corridors, playing fields.

What does BOSF do?

BOSF is still very new. BOSF plans to offer opportunities for groups and individuals interested in open spaces to share knowledge and experience. At present this will be in the form of email contact, this website and meetings. Future plans will be decided by the groups involved in BOSF.

Who is BOSF for?

BOSF is for any group in Birmingham working to promote and develop an open space. This includes: friend's groups community groups residents' associations neighbourhood forums environmental projects and groups professionals working in open spaces

Why join BOSF?

By joining BOSF you will have the opportunity to make contact with other groups and individuals interested in open spaces in Birmingham You will be kept informed of events and activities that may be of interest to you. You will be able to tap into the network to get answers to problems that other groups have already solved.

Why not call them parks?

Birmingham City Council identifies about 150 parks in the City. In fact there are about 300 green, open spaces in Birmingham regarded by local communities as "parks". BOSF wants to support all communities that want to develop their open space, not just those with the official designation "park".

How long has BOSF been running?

BOSF members have been meeting for 4 years now. We hold 2 meetings a year. One in the Spring includes our AGM and is for user groups. The 2nd meeting is held in the Autumn and is a large event attended by user groups, service providers, policy makers and politicians. At our meeting in March 2005 we agreed a constitution and manifesto. If you have any advice or feedback email any suggestions to info@bosf.org.uk.

How many members do you have?

Currently the BOSF membership includes 147 friends/user groups from across Birmingham and 75 local authority officers and service providers.
