Pype Hayes Park

Opening of the Sensory GardenPype Hayes Park covers an area of over 100 acres and is an Oasis of Green-spacewithin a bustling City. It surrounds the Historic Grade II listed Pype Hayes Hall, which was built in the 17 th Century, and the park as it exists today was once the private grounds of this house. It is a diverse park which has a mixture of open fields, landscaped Formal Gradens and woodland. There is a large pond, Children’s Play area, tennis courts and a bowling green.

The Friends of Pype Hayes park and Hall was formed nearly 7 years ago, to safeguard the park for future generations. Our first problem arose shortly after, when it was found that there were plans to build on a small piece of our park. The group organized petitions, spoke to the press and held a large public meeting, and after many months of work, we were ultimately successful n stopping the building going ahead. This made us more determined than ever, and we continue to monitor the park in all things.

Over the last 7 years We have had a new Children’s Play area installed, put in Benches, Litter Bins and Dog Bins, and got funding for a new Park-Keeper. In 2006 the Lord Mayor of Birmingham opened our new Sensory Garden, for which we raised over £100,000. We have held a car-boot sale, 2 Dog shows and been instrumental in getting the whole park cleaned up. W e have a dedicated park staff, who work very hard, and are very proud of their park. We continue to campaign for further improvements.

Our next challenge is to get the pond area repaired and refurbished, and there are plans in the pipeline for a cycle-walkway , and the tennis courts to be looked at by an outside organization. We look forward to the next 7 years.
