Brandwood End Cemetery

The Friends of Brandwood End Cemetery (FBEC) arose from a deep genuine community interest in maintaining this historic landscaped Victorian Cemetery which is also a valued green open space within an urban setting.

FBEC officially commenced its activities following an Inaugural Meeting on the 21st July 2005, when its Constitution was agreed and an Executive Committee elected by a well attended public meeting. The objects of the Friends are: to promote for the benefit of the local community and others, the restoration, conservation and respectful enjoyment of Brandwood End Cemetery and Chapels, including monuments, buildings, records, green spaces, adjacent pool and allotments and overall environment.

Over the last 4 years many projects have been completed, details of which are on our website. Most recently inscribed boulders have been placed to mark public grave sites and spring bulbs have been planted alongside the main drive.

Following the formation of a tripartite group with Birmingham City Council and the Birmingham Conservation Trust, an Options Appraisal has been undertaken by Architectural Consultants to review the structure and environment of the Chapels and potential ways of raising funds for restoration, future maintenance and improvements to the Cemetery in general. Regretably, the proposals were rejected by Birmingham City Council. Further negotiations are underway. A Service of Remembrance is held in November each year and poppy crosses are laid on all the war graves. The recently restored Civilian Garden of Remembrance is maintained on a regular basis. Bi-monthly litter picks take place and details of these can be found on our website and notice boards in the cemetery. (Registered Charity No: 1114333)
