STECFORD WARD FC est. 2006

Young footballers kick off new venture

Stechford Youth Network, a voluntary organisation was established in March 2006, it aims to reduce antisocial behaviour, crime and improve representation through giving the youth in Stechford a voice. The aims can be achieved by working proactively and to focus on crime prevention. We give the youth a voice through the youth forum, and encourage and train them to become youth leaders. The organization is currently working with 50-60 youth boys/girls and working on improving the provisions for children, we believe that positive change is achievable and we are working towards a stronger community. The main activity we provide is football coaching, with qualified coaches and activities through holiday. This summer holidays will see the arrival at Cricket also at Yardley Fields Recreation Ground.

The organization has just received two full football kits, equipment and coaches wear through the Yardley District Office. Stechford Ward FC has currently played two friendly matches resulting in comfortable wins, these pre-season games gives the youth an opportunity to meet new teams and develop important skills. The team will be entering into a league next season.

Location: Yardley Fields Recreation Ground, Yardley Fields Road, off Station Road Time: Sundays 1-3pm Ages: 10-19

The support from the following has made working in Stechford not only rewarding but also allowed us to achieve much more in a shorter space of time, Osaf Ahmed Ward Support Officer Stechford, James Brown Sports Development Officer Yardley, Cllr Carol Jones, Cllr Neil Eustance and Barbara Jackson, Adnan Saif Director for Local Services in Yardley District and also the Yardley District Team.

Yardley District Chair, Cllr David Osborne, said: “This is an encouraging project in many respects.

“Local children who care about their community have taken the lead in developing and pursuing this – a promising scheme that will engage a large number of young people and keep them fit and healthy.

“It also shows how useful the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund is as a tool for financially helping some of our area’s best schemes and projects.”

This organization is working very closely with Erdington Youth Network; they have very similar activities including football coaching, friendly matches, competitions, trips and much more.
