Westley Vale Millennium Green

Westley Vale

Westley Vale Millennium Green TrustWestley Vale Millennium Green is situated in Acocks Green. It is one of only two Millennium Greens in the City of Birmingham. It was created from a disused area of allotments and covers 5.5 acres. It is bordered by residential areas on three sides, and sits against the Grand Union Canal. A stream, the Westley Brook, runs through the site.

Birmingham City Council granted the Westley Vale Millennium Green Trust a 999-year lease and with the grant and sponsorship monies the site has been transformed. There is now a new area of open green and a circular pathway with two bridges over the re-directed brook. The open meadow with seating now provides a place for the local community to relax and enjoy nature, informal recreation, enjoyment and play.

The Trust is solely reliant on donations and fund raising to carry on maintaining the site for the benefit of the local community. We organise regular clean-up days where volunteers collect litter and cut back and prune the shrubs and bushes. Keeping the polluted Westley Book clean is also an ongoing problem which we tackle throughout the year.

Unfortunately like many of these inner city areas we are prone to vandalism. We constantly have to remove graffiti and litter and have several projects that we need funds for before we can begin.
