Ethnomedica - Preserving Herbal Traditions

Ethnomedica is a non profit-making organisation which aims to preserve the wealth of knowledge about local use of plants as medicines. Archives will be kept at the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew and also made available online.

Here are some examples that have been collected so far.

"Dead-nettle tea stops you from having spots. Mum used to give us an eggcup full every morning before breakfast."

"If you get stung by stinging nettles, get a dock leaf, spit on it, slap it on the sting and it took the pain away."

"Hot onion in your ear to stop ear-ache."

"For the healing of warts rub wool of beans or pods on the wart with milk of scarlet pimpernel or milky dandelion juice."
