How prevalent is the dreaded Japanese Knot Weed?

By E-mail:

How prevalent is the dreaded Japanese Knot Weed amongst bosf members?

We have several areas that are rapidly spreading on Billesley Common and members of The Valley Riverside Project are very concerned that the City Council is still not making a committment to control it. I know that trials have taken place and methods of treating the weed have been documented. Can bosf help us to encourage the City Council to act soon? Is it possible for volunteers to undertake training so that we can understand how it spreads and also to support the process of treating it with herbicide? The longer the weed is left to spread the more costly it will be deal with. Any help or support would be welcomed thanks Pat (secretary) pat.a.rowland@gmail.com

Prevention of Disabled access to Open Space

By E-mail:

Dear All,
I am very concerned that the erection of a post and rail fence across the grass at the end of Foxhope Close Kings Norton, will prevent the access to the local amenity open space by the local registered diasabled residents of Foxhope Close and neighbouring roads (especially Foxhope Close (Bromsgrove), Hillarire Close (Bromsgrove),Chelworth Road (Birmingham) and Harbinger Road (Birmingham) Specifically because of their disabilities these residents are not able to travel far and would be excluded from these facilities should a post and rail fence without a gap or gate be erected. They cannot climb over or through a post and rail fence they need a gap or gateway to walk through.

Other open spaces do not restrict access to the diasabled eg access has been made available for the open space/Park adjacent to Maypole Lane (between Maypole island and the Stratford Road Shirley) this land has a post and rail fence with a number of gaps which allow access to the amenity)

Please can you help to ensure that local disabled residents are not prevented from accessing such a valued resource.
